愛知県半田市で車の部品製造の仕事をしている髙橋祐太さん(28)は趣味のロードバイクの輪行に訪れた長野県天龍村の秘境駅や山道が過疎で倒木や杉の枝などで荒廃している様子を目の当たりにする。彼は乗り降りがしやすいキックボードに乗り換え、秘境駅とその周囲の山道を月1回ボランティアで清掃するプロジェクトを始める。彼の清掃活動はやがて地域の人から注目を集め、秘境駅間(小和田→中井侍)を利用したトレイルライドの企画や観光列車の実現に向けて動き出す。
見えないものの中に、大事な問題が潜んでいるのだとしたら、そしてそれを我々映画作家がフィルムに焼き付けて記録/記憶し、未来の、現在の、観客に遺 すのだとしたら、スローに、広角に、物事を見なくてはならない。そんな問題意識に駆られていたタイミングで、私は本作の主人公に出会った。髙橋祐太さんというその主人公は平日は名古屋で製造工として働きながら、休みの旅に往復 六時間以上かけて長野県南端の秘境駅までローカル線で出向き、ローカル線の各駅を清掃して回る。さらに山道をキックボードで巡りながら、倒木や雑草枯 れ葉の除去をして、ツーリングに訪れる人々の事故や災害を防いでいる。なぜ、そんな途方もないことを?それもだった一人で? そんな疑問に駆られたが、彼とコミュニケートする中で気付かされた。「秘境駅が好きだ」そしてそれを守りたいという純粋な気持ちが、彼の行動を支えていた。彼の旅に同行し、ドキュメンタリーを紡ぎたいという想いに駆られた。 その旅路は日本が直面する少子高齢化とそれに伴う地方都市の過疎化、さらにその状況が巻き起こす林業の衰退、山間放棄地の現状といった課題を映し出してゆくだろう。青年の取り組みを追う中で天竜川流域の秘境駅周辺の豊かな自然環境を描き、日本の今を見つめながら、主人公が主体的に行動を起こすことでもたらされるささやかだけれども尊い(と信じる)社会変革を観客と共有すべく、このドキュメンタリー映画制作を決意した。（監督:太田信吾）

Synopsis
28-years-old auto mechanic Yūta Takahashi, who lives in Handa, Aichi prefecture, visited Tenryu village in Nagano prefecture by bike as a holiday trip and witnessed the state of abandonment the village was in. Trading his bike for a more convenient scooter, he started cleaning the remote train stations and surrounding mountain roads as a volunteer in his free time. His cleanup missions caught the attention of locals and he now plans to develop a trail ride circuit and a sightseeing tour using remote stations between Owada and Nakai Samurai.
If there is an invisible menace lurking, we, as filmmakers, must record it thoroughly in order to crave it into present and future audiences’ memories. I met the main character of this film at a time when I was concerned by such issues. This main character, Yūta Takahashi, works as a car part manufacturer on weekdays and spends his weekends and holidays riding for more than six hours back and forth to remote stations in southern Nagano prefecture using local trains in order to clean each station on the line. Also, by riding around the mountain roads on his scooter, he prevents accidents for tourists by removing fallen trees and dead leaves from the roads. Why would he spend his time doing this? And why alone? As I was stuck with these questions, he simply told me he liked remote stations and I couldn’t help but be amazed by his genuine feelings of wanting to protect such spaces. I decided to join him on his trip and to make a documentary out of it. This journey reflects the low birthrate and aging conjuncture that Japan is currently facing as well as the resulting depopulation and abandonment of forestry in rural areas. Following this young man on his journey, it drew a panorama of the rich nature surrounding the Tenryū river, and looking at Japan today, I wanted to show people the small but precious changes brought by this man’s actions.
